Would you like a Zune with that?Buying a new Zune today? Then you should rush over to Mickey D's afterward, buy some fries, grab several napkins so you don't grease up the media player, and try the free Wi-Fi.

The deal between Microsoft and Wayport, the provider of network services for McDonald's restaurants across the nation, means Zune users get free online access with their players for the next three years. You can't use Zune to surf the Web, but you can use the player to buy music. There's a new feature called Buy from FM, so as you listen to FM radio on the integrated tuner and hear a song you like, one click can buy it from the Zune Marketplace. The free Wi-Fi works for existing Zunes, too, not just the new hardware released today.

The new Zunes will start at $149 for the 8GB model (check out the full specs). Other devices with free Wi-Fi access under the Golden Arches are the Sony Mylo COM-2 and Zipit Wireless Messenger Z2. Wayport provides hot-spot service at over 10,000 locations.

Another twist, as Wi-FI Networking News points out: Wayport powers all the hotspots for AT&T. AT&T, of course, is the exclusive provider for the iPhone. But does the iPhone, or even the iPod touch, have a free public Wi-Fi network to run on? Despite slip-ups in the past from AT&T that indicated the possibility... no.
