In addition to speeding up its Prius plug-in hybrid fleet testing, Toyota is also working on an all-electric car, Bloomberg reports. The all-electric car will be "mass-produced'" in the early 2010s, Toyota president Katsuaki Watanabe said in Tokyo last week without giving any further details.
The news was greeted warmly by analysts. "Toyota is one of those companies that literally have their hand in everything,'' said Ed Kim, director of industry analysis for consultant AutoPacific, in the report. "With electric cars also coming from [Nissan], it was probably only a matter of time before Toyota decided they want to have one as well."
