xohmlogo.jpg Remember XOHM, Sprint's WiMax network? We do. It was supposed to launch in Baltimore in September, and we haven't heard word one from Sprint about any concrete launch plans. So we asked them, and got this official word: "Launch still on for September." That means in the next 12 days.

XOHM won't be primarily a cell phone network. Rather, it looks to compete more with PC ISPs, offering laptops with integrated wireless and plug-in modem units. Speeds will be a little faster than 3G networks, something like 2-4 megabits downstream. I was pretty psyched about the network about a year ago, because it promised cheap, ubiquitous wireless Internet.

Sprint has kept their XOHM launch plans quiet, which makes us worry about the state of the launch as we enter the back half of September. When's the party invitation coming, guys?

Sprint/Clearwire have been quite due to the fact that the Board members and Investors needs to complete. Then all plans will go forward.
