If you are a Smart ForTwo driver, chances are you live in a large city and are reaping the benefits of the car's frugal nature. But if you also happen to live in or near the Big Apple, there is now even more to smile about.
In addition to being one of the most fuel efficient vehicles on the road, the Smart appeals to city dwellers for its parking-friendly dimensions. In fact, displacing only 106 inches in length, this tiny urban newcomer is starting to make some parking companies feel a bit antsy. Anticipating a likely influx of Smart cars in NYC, Meyers Parking, a large Manhattan-based parking operator, agreed to give Smart owner a 50 percent discount off daily and monthly posted parking rates at any of the its six facilities, including multi-level garages at Times Square and Madison Square Garden. According to AutoblogGreen, the deal, which will run through Dec. 31, 2008, was engineered by SmartUSA itself to lure even more potential buyers.
"Decreased parking supply and urban congestion represent a continuing problem in New York, and we can't think of a better company to partner with than smart USA to help combat these issues," said Mike Carolan, Director of Operations for Meyers Parking. "We are excited to offer smart owners a discount, as it seems only appropriate that smart owners pay half price since they only take up half the space."
