You don't have to be a professional movie maker or even aspire to be one to take part in SanDisk and YouTube's new "Life Moves" online film festival. In fact, SanDisk and YouTube are suggesting that you leave your expensive video cameras at home and use your plain, old point-and-shoot digital camera to show the world how your life moves by uploading the video to YouTube. As long as your video is less than 2 minutes long, shot on a point-and-shoot camera, and taken in one continuous shot, it may win you cash, prizes, or a trip to Las Vegas.
SanDisk and YouTube are trying to make more people aware that many point-and-shoot digital cameras can provide solid video quality, especially for the Web. Both services have joined forces to get more camera owners to shoot video and share it with the world with the "Live Moves" contest. Participants in the contest are automatically entered to win one of 200 SanDisk II Ultra 4GB SDHC cards, and the best video in the contest's five categories each can win a $1,000 prize. The creator of the best overall video will win a $10,000 prize and a trip to Las Vegas.

To enter the contest, participants must be 18 or older and verify that their videos were shot in one take with a digital point-and-shoot camera--no fancy camcorders or DSLRs need apply. The videos will be judged in five different categories: kid moves, pet moves, dance moves, action moves, and comedy moves. You don't have to select a category when you upload your video, but any video submitted to the contest can be judged across categories. The SanDisk channel on YouTube has already garnered over 250 subscribers, thanks to the contest.

If you're interested in one of those shiny new 4GB memory cards or possibly winning cash and the trip to Vegas, make sure you submit your video between now and November 10th, 2008, when the submission period ends. After that, the YouTube masses will have their say on which videos they think are the best between November 18th and December 8th, and winners for each category will be chosen based on the ratings of the YouTube community. The finalists and best video will be announced right before the holidays on December 15th.
