Citroen will join its sister brand Peugeot in showing a hybrid concept car at the Paris motor show in early October, Automotive News Europe reports. In fact, the Hypnos concept will actually go further than that, showing for the first time Citroen's new diesel-electric hybrid powertrain.
The report said that the concept is a teaser for "a vehicle that doesn't exist, but which will soon," said Pascal Henault, PSA/Peugeot-Citroen's head of research and engineering. The concept's engine delivers 200 horsepower while returning 53 mpg on the European automotive cycle. Henault said that since the cost of developing a hybrid is high, especially a diesel hybrid, the company plans to focus on the premium side of the market first and then eventually trickle the technology down to more mainstream vehicles. (Toyota, VW, and Honda would probably have something to say about that.)
