Heart disease is deadly because you'd never know when it would strike. Those afflicted with the disease should be able to monitor their heart activity anytime and anywhere in real time. It was six years ago when the idea for a real-time, wireless heart activity monitor was conceived by Latvian company Integris Ltd. However, it's only now when wireless technologies are already easily accessible that the project was realized.
The HEART GUARD system is made up of a matchbox-sized, lightweight, and easy to use device along with five electrodes placed on the user's chest. The data collected from the electrodes are wirelessly transmitted by the device to a pocket, desktop, or notebook PC. If there's anything the user should be concerned about, the device would buzz or vibrate as a warning. HEART GUARD has already completed clinical trials with the first commercial devices meant for home use coming out as early as the end of 2008 or the beginning of 2009.
