To address the growing number of what GM calls rumors and half-truths directed at the company, the world's largest automaker launched gmfactsandfiction.com -- a blog-based PR effort designed to deflect negative publicity.
Among the most frequently made claims is one accusing the company of lobbying for more than $25 billion in bailout money, a charge GM emphatically denies on the new website, The Detroit News reports. "We are not asking for a bailout, or a handout. The program under discussion -- part of major energy legislation signed in December 2007 -- is intended to lower borrowing costs for carmakers and suppliers who are investing in energy-saving technologies. This would be done through direct loans, which must be repaid in full, with interest," the site said.
The blog also links to third party sites and addresses other allegations dealing with design and engineering, environmental practices, and quality issues. Visit the site to learn more.
