GM has decided to can replacement versions of the Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky roadsters, as the company has pulled the Kappa II program—successor to the current lineup of Kappa platform roadsters—from its product plans, according to GM Inside News.

The report said that the reasons are obvious: "uncertain gas prices, an uneasy economy, poor financial situation within the company and an overall product shake up." The Kappa roadsters were expensive for GM to build, share few parts with other vehicles, have plenty of hydra-formed parts which are difficult to produce, and are largely hand-built cars; GM has been reported to lose $10,000 on each one. That would leave the Solstice and Sky, not to mention the Opel GT and the Daewoo SX2 overseas, as pure "image" cars that cost the company money but served a greater purpose. Collectors, begin bidding now.
