If you intend to keep an older TV beyond next February, you're going to need a DTV converter box. PC Magazine just reviewed four of them, and we're happy to say they're basically all as good as each other. So if you're not the picky type, take your $40 government coupon and just pick up the first one you see.
If you are the picky type, the Apex DT250 seems like the best one of the bunch for geeks. It has an S-Video output and a smart antenna input, and its free electronic program guide has more information than competing boxes'. Its interface isn't as pretty or easy as the Zenith DTT900's, but for geeks I actually consider that a plus. We like things ugly and functional, right?
Then again, true geeks have given up on broadcast TV entirely and are just downloading everything from the Internet.
