2009_Mercedes_R320_BlueTEC_Autoblog_Green.jpg

The U.S. Federal Government Department of Energy has revealed that the three new Mercedes BlueTEC diesel models qualify for the Advanced Lean Burn Technology Motor Vehicle income tax credit, AutoblogGreen. The three cars—the GL320 BlueTEC, the ML320 BlueTEC, and the R320 BlueTEC—join the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Clean Diesel in receiving the credit.

Here's how the list breaks down:

* 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL 320 BlueTEC $1,800
* 2009 Mercedes-Benz ML 320 BlueTEC $900
* 2009 Mercedes-Benz R 320 BlueTEC $1,550
* 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Sedan $1,300
* 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI SportWagon $1,300

The DOE also improved the fueleconomy.gov Web site, letting users flip a setting that switches miles per gallon to gallons per mile.
