Chrysler CEO Bob Nardelli spoke with CNBC this morning and unveiled the first product of its ENVI electric car division, AutoblogGreen reports. The new Dodge EV is based on the Lotus Europa platform—a fitting parallel to the Lotus Elise-based Tesla Roadster—and with its ENVI-devised electric drive and lithium ion batteries, Nardelli claimed the plug-in EV is good for a range of 150-200 miles and 0-60 time of under 5 seconds.
Chrysler (Dodge's parent company) will also be unveiling three other electric vehicles later today. According to the report, they will be showing a pair of extended range EVs based on the Town and Country Van and Jeep Wrangler, both of which are expected to have a 40 mile battery range and 400 mile total range (similar to the Chevy Volt). The final vehicle will be called the Pea-pod NEV; we'll know more soon about that one. Nardelli said in the CNBC interview that we can expect to see at least one of these vehicles in production by late 2010.
