That's the name of the all-electric Smart ForTwo as it is dubbed in Europe where it will go on sale in the early 2010. The ED suffix stands for "Electric Drive" and these tempting photos are likely depicting one of the 100 rechargeable Smarts currently undergoing testing in the UK.
Daimler even threw in a picture of a public charger tested alongside the EVs. However, for those eagerly awaiting Smart ED's American debut mere photos will have to suffice. According to Edmunds Green Car Advisor, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche remains silent about the company's plans to sell the car in the US, despite the growing interest.
Notwithstanding its fussy gasoline diet (Smart ForTwo is made to run on Premium) and fuel economy figures that seem lacking for this segment, the gas-powered Smart has insofar been fairly successful here in the US. For more on the Smart, including a quirky video of a reporter spending 12 hours in the microcar, go here.
