velocity-301.jpg Velocity Mobile hasn't dropped their first Windows Mobile phone onto the market yet, but they're already working on the second generation. At left, you see the Velocity Mobile 301, a super-high-res PDA phone they're planning to release during the first quarter of 2009. The 301 has an 800x480 screen, the same as the currently rumored HTC Touch HD -- except, of course, that Velocity Mobile is actually admitting the 301 exists.

Velocity showed three other Windows Mobile models at the CTIA trade show as well. The 83 is a slim smart phone that's being sold primarily as a GPS device. Its most interesting feature is two MicroSD memory card slots - one for maps, one for media. That one will launch by early November for around $500.

Velocity also showed us, once again, the Velocity 103 and 111, which we first saw last April. These are both Windows Mobile 6.1 smart phones; the 103 is a slab-style, all-touchscreen device with a VGA screen (much like the HTC Touch Diamond) and video out capability, while the 111 is a QWERTY device with a 320x240 screen. The 103 is going on the market this month in Europe for around $600, but Velocity is still trying to figure out how to sell the phones in the US. Major distributor Brightpoint is involved in that conversation, too.

Velocity continues to set themselves apart by being unusually open about their development process and choices. For instance, they admit that most handhelds come to market a little buggy; rather than insisting that their devices have absolutely no bugs, they've installed an over-the-air software-updating client on each phone that pushes out updates, bug fixes and feature improvements without users having to sync the devices up to a PC. We'll take a closer look at their products when they're ready for market. More photos after the jump.
