Audi is hard at work on a new project called Travolution that lets drivers know how long it will be before the next traffic light turns red. Autopia reports that it uses communications modules built into traffic lights that send signals to the Audi Multi Media Interface (MMI) which, in turn, let the driver know if he can proceed safely and at what speed before the light changes.

Audi said in a statement that the new system could also dramatically reduce the number of actual stops needed by creating a communications link between cars and the traffic light network. Meanwhile, the report said that the system could also reduce accidents in the "dilemma zone," which is where a driver is unsure whether or not to slow down or speed up at a yellow light. Even better—the system can make a red light turn green if there's no traffic nearby. Sign me up.
