Volvo_Diesel_C30_AutoblogGreen.jpg

A sharp-eyed enthusiast with a camera phone caught Volvo testing a diesel version of its sleek C30 sport hatchback, AutoblogGreen reports. Back in July, Volvo had insinuated it would introduce some small cars with diesel engines in America soon, so this could back that up, although it's not certain.

As the report said, Volvo offers two four cylinder diesel engines in Europe, displacing 1.6-liters and 2.0-liters, as well as a five cylinder, 2.4-liter diesel block. The badge on the car in the photo says "2.0D" which would indicate the smallest of those three engines. The reason no one can say for sure if this indicates an American model is that the car was caught testing in Phoenix, near Volvo's test track; it's possible that the company brought the car here just to do extreme heat testing, and will still only sell it overseas. On the other hand, they did say they were introducing diesels here soon.
