In a recent post we brought you the luring spy shots of Honda's planned Prius-terminator. Today we learn that the gas-electric hybrid hatchback will in fact go on sale in April, 2009 with a price target of under $20,000.
The news was made official by Honda's ultimate insider, Richard Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co, Edmunds Green Car Adviser reports. According to Colliver, the vehicle is positioned for younger eco-savvy car buyers unable to afford the $21,500 Toyota Prius or the $22,600 Civic Hybrid. "For consumers who are interested in fuel economy and the environment having a specific individual product is important," he said.
Honda has yet to release fuel economy data, but hopes to outsell the current market leader ,Toyota Prius by building 200,000 units worldwide and 100,000 for North America.
