A BMW 335i owner in Munich, bored of his car's black paint, hired a team of people to wrap it in white tape, Autoblog reports. This didn't turn out to be the disaster you would think, either. Judging from the photos, it appears his revised "Alpine White" coupe looks as if it came straight out of the factory that way—complete with an M3-style black roof.
Apparently, the "tape" is actually a special kind of 3M wrap, and the process itself is known as "foiling." The report said that the German military has been using this process with a dark olive tape for some time now, along with taxis and race teams.
"Available in countless colors, the tape itself is thick enough to protect the paint from minor chips and nicks, and it can be left adhered to the surface for 3-4 years without damage... Adhesion isn't a problem either, as the tape can even withstand an automatic car wash without peeling off." Not bad.
