There are countless myths about plasma TVs, including the erroneous allegory that the sets need to be "recharged" after a while. The most common misconception, however, is that plasma TVs might only last a couple of years. The fact is that with normal viewing those sexy flat panels might last a very long time.

Panasonic, one of the leaders in the plasma TV category, is now stressing that its latest sets could last up to 100,000 viewing hours to reach half brightness. That's about 42 years with an average six-and-a-half hours of viewing, or about eight-and-a-half years, if you watch 24/7.

So forget the recession, these sets could still be looking good for the 2052 presidential election.
