2009_Peugeot_407.jpg

Over in the U.K., the new-for-2009 Peugeot 407 will feature a revised front grill and air intake, a new RT5 satellite navigation system, a new 'SR' trim level, and a new HDi 140 diesel engine that outputs less CO2, according to the company. The HDi 140 block produces—you guessed it—140 hp, which is good for a 0-62 mph run of 9.8 seconds and a top speed of 129 mph while achieving an average fuel economy approximately 40 mpg (US).

Peugeot mates the HDi 140 diesel engine to a 6-speed manual transmission. Two earlier diesel blocks (making 110 and 170 hp, respectively) are still available. All of Peugeot's diesel engines can run on up to 30 percent biodiesel; the company is also introducing a 2.0-liter 'Bioflex' engine in November that works with E85 flex fuel. But will they ever return to the US? That's the question.
