Olympus introduced the new μ 1050SW digital camera in Japan which is slated for release on September 4, 2008. The camera has enhanced dust, impact, and water resistance, although what makes it special is something else altogether. Olympus μ 1050SW features tap control function which, as its name implies, lets users control the camera's functionalities by tapping on its various parts.

Tap controls were made possible by the equipped three-dimensional acceleration sensor. Everything from pressing the keys on the camera to even snapping the pictures themselves could be replaced by tap controls. Additionally, tilting the camera adjusts the speed of the slideshow view. The 10.1MP camera would be available in blue, silver, pink, and gold and has a monthly production figure of 130,000 units.
