The nation's largest digital aggregator of live traffic video TrafficLand said today it would collaborate with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) on a one-year project studying the ecological benefits of traffic data flow to the public. The program also aims to broaden the availability of vehicle traffic video for the media and emergency services.
The agreement authorizes the NYSDOT to utilize the company's comprehensive Transportation Video Information Sharing Network (TVISN) and deploy it across the state in Albany, Buffalo, Long Island, Lower Hudson Valley, Manhattan, Painted Post, Rochester and Syracuse. Once in place, the system will begin to broadcast live traffic feeds via TV channels and over the internet using Google Maps.
Web users will be able to view live video, customize and save camera displays of frequently traveled routes, and even receive live image email updates and mobile alerts. "The ability to access live traffic and road conditions will allow motorists to increase their vehicle efficiency and reduce overall vehicle miles traveled, a goal of Governor Paterson's Renewable Energy Taskforce Report," said Robert G. Callender, NYSERDA Vice President for Programs.
