The Fiat 500 is already a small and super-efficient car, with a wide range of diesel and gas engines, but AutoblogGreen is reporting that Fiat may be putting the finishing touches on a hybrid version of the car. The "gas/electric retro mini would start off with Fiat's 900cc two-cylinder engine, hooked up to a battery pack and backed up by a start-stop ignition system and a dual-clutch transmission," according to the report.
The car shown in the photo is actually the Fiat 500 Aria concept, which Fiat showed off earlier this year at the Geneva Auto Show. Fiat plans to introduce the hybrid version at the Goodwood Festival of Speed next year, according to the article. Remember that Fiat is already busy farming out the platform to other hybrid car makers, so maybe they began to feel left out.
