UK specialty car maker Trident Performance Vehicles said that it's "all but ready" to begin sales of its new diesel supercar, the Iceni, according to Next Energy News. The company claims the Iceni can hit 60 mph in less than four seconds, reach a top speed of 200 mph, and achieve almost 69 mpg at a steady 70 mph. But that's nothing compared to its range—if you believe the company's hype.
If you're excited about the upcoming avalanche of electric cars but frustrated with their short ranges, Trident Performance Vehicles is claiming that the Iceni will have a "bladder-busting range" of 2,000 miles, according to the report. The company calls the car a grand-tourer, with a composite body and a stainless steel chassis.
The Iceni's 6.6-liter engine is possibly derived from GM's Duramax block, although the company hasn't said one way or the other. In this application, the engine is reportedly good for 550 hp and a metal-twisting 950 lb-ft of torque, according to a separate Left Lane article. The company has so far burned through over $4 million, and reportedly needs more to complete development.
