Hyundai Motor Corp. just announced that it will introduce a gas-electric hybrid version of its Sonata sedan in the United States, according to the Associated Press. John Krafcik, Hyndai's VP of product development, said that Hyundai plans to debut a hybrid version of the midsize Sonata at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

Krafcik said that they'll announce a release date the day the car goes on display. The new Sonata Hybrid (or whatever it ends up being called) will be able to run off the electric as well as the gas engine, and will feature brand-new lithium-ion battery technology. I can only wonder what Honda thinks of all this, now that it canned its not-so-efficient Accord hybrid, and now that Toyota, GM, Hyundai, and Nissan all have mid-size hybrids in play.
