A Dallas law firm reports today that it is filing a class-action lawsuit against electronics manufacturer Hitachi for alleged defects in its high-definition televisions. Heygood, Orr, Reyes, Pearson & Bartolomei is filing the suit on behalf of owners of the 50V500A LCD rear-projection TV.
Plaintiff Anthony Partida claims the TV has a design defect that creates "green 'blobs,' red 'blooms,' green haze, blue dots, yellow lines and other color anomalies" on screen.
"Hitachi has been more than willing to take people's money for these TV sets and they should be more than willing to fix them," says Partida's attorney, Eric D. Pearson. "In some cases, people paid $3,500 or more for these TVs. You can't take that kind of money and deliver a defective product."
Update: from Robert Heron.
RPTV sales are expected to be half of what they were last year. Only one manufacturer (Samsung) showed new RPTV models on the 2008 CES show floor. Flat-panel televisions are the primary reason why folks have abandoned RPTV tech (the rest of the world dumped RPTV years ago, and the US is coming around now.)
Considering that this particular Hitachi TV would sell for about $200 on Craigslist (if that), I'm guessing the lawyers involved will benefit the most from this lawsuit (no big surprise).

Have the same problem with my Hitachi 60v500a, a faulty light engine which seems to be a common problem. My friend purchased the same tv and low and behold the same problem. Luckly mine is under an extended warranty but it doesn't seem fair that I have to use it to repair Hitachi's problem tvs. Want my money back or at least make Hitachi pay.
