obamavpsms.jpgBarack Obama's campaign today confirmed that they totally weren't kidding about the whole text message vice president thing. While he's not quite asking his supporters to pick his running mate American Idol-style, he's doing potentially the next best thing: giving them the heads up on his choice via SMS.

"Let me be very clear," wrote Obama spokesman, David Plouffe in an e-mail sent out today. "You are the ones who built this campaign, and Barack wants you to be the first to know who will join him in leading our movement for change."

By filling out a form on his site or texting VP to 62262 (seriously), cell phone owners can be among the first to find out the presumptive Democratic nominee's running mate (that is, assuming that they don't have one of those iffy new Apple iPhones).

Why are they only promoting "62262"? That spells OBAMA for crying out loud, which is so much easier to remember... weird.

I think this is a really cool idea. He seems to be really connecting with his supporters

What do I think? Well, if Obama doesn't pick Hillary as his VP, he can kiss the presidency good-bye! Tada ~

they are promoting 62262 because so many people have blackberries and thus cannot spell out OBAMA.

If he doesn't select Hillary, he will be committing political suicide

Hillary and Bill cannot be trusted - besides the republicans will have a field day, they literally hate the Clintons and we don't need all that fighting back in washington -
