There have now been 14 custom-build PT Cruiser models sold by Chrysler under the Dream Cruise insignia since the car's debut in 2000. The latest iteration offers the same, now recognizable retro styling with a more graceful stance both inside and out.
On the surface the Dream Cruiser 5 is not a far stretch from the standard model. The body is wrapped in chrome elements and features upper and lower cross-hatched aluminum grilles, while the 17-inch SRT-designed wheels add a sporty touch. In all elegant, but far from 'dreamy'.
Step inside and it is the same song, second verse. According to The Detroit News, "Chrysler designer John Sgalia said this PT includes a new black fabric for its seats and updates around the interior", including chrome-finished cup holders. Both engines available with the Dream Cruise edition -- the standard 2.4-liter 150-hp four-banger and an equal-size 180-hp turbocharged version -- have been adopted from the regular PT with no changes.
The Dream Cruiser will go on sale this fall and cost $22,700 ($23,980 for the supercharged model), including shipping.
