A proponent of the upcoming, all-electric Chevrolet Volt has released details of an unofficial waiting list for the vehicle that includes 33,000 prospective buyers, in a bid to show demand, Reuters reports. Lyle Dennis, a New York neurologist, runs GM-Volt.com, a Web site that is tracking development of the car; he's been building a list of potential buyers over the past year.
The report said that the list shows the highest number of potential Volt buyers in California, Texas, Florida and Michigan, although it also includes interested parties from 46 countries outside the United States. However, the average price that people were willing to pay for the car was just $31,261, which is significantly under the $40,0000 target price GM has set for the first generation of the car.
Still, GM expects an initial shortage for the car. "I don't know if there is any other vehicle or any other technology that has generated this kind of interest because of the state of the market and gas prices," said GM spokesman Dave Darovitz in the article. "We know the demand is going to be there."
