Toyota has topped the rankings in corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) for automakers selling cars in the U.S. for the 2007 model year. The company averaged 29.69 mpg in its actual vehicles sold, including Camrys, Priuses, Tundras, and everything else the company peddles stateside, Autoblog reports.

Honda and Hyundai were next on the list with 29.47 and 29.39, respectively. Domestic brands were much further down the list, with GM, Ford, and Chrysler scoring 25.16, 25.15 and 23.97—evidence of product line-ups that are more heavily weighted on the truck and SUV side of the equation.

On the positive side, the report said that the 2008 numbers should show a significant improvement for all three companies "now that truck sales have gone in the toilet" and they are selling smaller cars as quickly as they can build them. "Chrysler will also benefit by not including Mercedes-Benz in its numbers," the report added.
