Many car features should have gone the way of eight-track tapes over the years. But what's really surprising is that some current production vehicles still have them even today. So in lieu of a typical emerging tech feature, the Boston Globe has put together a slideshow of 10 old-school winners that are not only obsolete, but that can still be found on some brand new makes and models—including, of all things, a cassette deck.
I had thought that offering a CD changer in lieu of a proper MP3 player jack was already pushing it. But Lexus doesn't think so—their GS sedan puts a cassette deck front and center in the dashboard console, which is perfect for those worn-out Wham! mix tapes.
Other not-exactly-cutting-edge features include drum brakes, bench seats, hubcaps, and—obsolete for its omission, rather than its presence—the lack of rear headrests in the current Ford Focus. The report also said that hood prop bars are actually making a comeback, now that manufacturers are looking to cut costs in every way imaginable. Watch your head!
