The next car California electric car company Tesla Motors builds will be called the Model S, and will be produced in a to-be-determined facility in northern California (not New Mexico) starting in late 2010, according to AutoWeek. The report said that the five-passenger sedan will cost about $60,000 and have a driving range of 225 miles on a single charge—that's $40,000 cheaper than the current Roadster (pictured).

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger made the announcement on Monday, June 30, alongside Tesla executives at a ceremony. Tesla had previously been considering locating its new factory in New Mexico, the report said. Back in February, rumors began to circulate about a secret sedan project; looks like they've been proven true after all.

EDIT: Corrected typo; Tesla was originally going to build the Model S in New Mexico.
