With Microsoft increasing storage space on the Xbox 360, Slashgear reported that Sony will be stepping up its game as well, with an upgrade to the PlayStation 3's Core Pack to 80GB, for $399.99.

The newer version will be identical to the current 40GB model. And Sony may be cutting the 40GB model soon.

Slashgear reports a September release, but you can actually get yours early. Sony's blog reported the 80GB model being sold with Metal Gear Solid 4 for $499. It seems a bit overpriced, but I guess that's what you get when you buy something early with a game included.
