Renault has announced that they plan to bring start-stop technology to every model they sell in Europe by 2010, according to AutoblogGreen. The basic idea behind start-stop tech is simple; the car simply shuts the engine down automatically when the vehicle is not moving, and then kicks it in again instantly as the driver begins to press down on the gas pedal.
The report said that Renault is currently working on prototypes, and that the company believes they can reduce their various cars' CO2 emissions by 15 to 20 percent in city driving. They also want to bring the technology down to a price point that's accessible for most consumers.
