August 21 is an important anniversary for me, and it comes two days before my wedding anniversary. But even my wife understands that I get a bit misty on August 21. See, August 21, 1980 is the day that my family first said goodbye to rabbit ears and hooked up to cable TV. So as a self-confessed TV-junkie, I find it surprising/confusing that some people actually choose to rely on those old rabbit ears to pick up their TV signals. But as someone who covers technology, I know that next February, these people could be left without TV.
In addition to the set top boxes that will allow those users with older TVs to continue viewing the new digital signals, there is the issue of whether the rabbit ears will even do enough. And for those looking to save a few dollars by cutting the cable and just going with the over-the-air channels (to which I must ask, "In the name of God, why?"), there are some good options. RCA has a new line of multi-directional flat antennas that are designed to pick up those over-the-air digital signals. The RCA Antenna Web site gives consumers an easy reference for selecting just the right TV antenna. These flat antennas can pick up signals better than the old-fangled rabbit ears--and best of all, you won't have to hold it in just the right place to enjoy a good picture.

i first saw these antenna at walmart and i was very skeptical about these flat antenna. till i saw this rss feed. i went back to walmart and picked them up for $49.99. i had rabbit ears for the longest time, even with my 50" plasma. i'm just too cheap to subscribe to cable or satalite. i was getting jittery and boxy signals for nbc, upn, and wb. with the flat antenna upgrade, i was very impressed. these rca flat antenna does work. go get yourself one.
