Whoops. Maybe installing that latest firmware upgrade wasn't such a good idea. According to a litany of reports, users who installed the 2.40 firmware upgrade for the PlayStation 3 have been experiencing a variety of problems.
Posters on Sony's official PlayStation forums have been logging complaints ranging from microphone issues to frozen consoles. Sony has effectively pulled the upgrade for the time being, issuing the following statement:
UPDATE: 7/2/2008, the PlayStation 3 system software version 2.40 has been temporarily taken offline and will not be available for download as our engineers examine any possible issues with this update. The Knowledge Center will be updated with information as it becomes available; please check back here for further details. s
According to 1UP.com, the only known fix at the moment is a hard drive reformat, which will effectively wipe clean your currently saved games.
