A report from NPD Research (based on sales through June of 2008) confirms that the Pure Digital has sold over 1 million Flips--the compact digital camcorders with onboard software that directly upload to video-sharing sites like YouTube and MySpace. It's amazing how a little camcorder that can fit into your pocket and purse can overtake the market so quickly.

The Flip's ease of use, low cost, and uplolad capabilities changed the market. And the newest incarnation, the Flip Mino is a pleasant, user-friendly cam for parents, technophobes, enthusiasts, etc.

The Flips don't come with a lot of high-end features, but there are ways to expand your Flip's abilities. Check out this post on How to Get the Most Out Of Your Low End Camcorder for some extra tips on taking excellent video on your Flip. And for do-it-yourselfers, DIY Macro and Microscope lens for your Flip could be a fun project.
