Apple has been a long-time passive supporter of Sony's Blu-ray format. Long before the high-def DVD wars finally came screeching to a halt, the company joined the format's board of directors. For the record, that was more than three years ago.
Still, despite the fact that the company's computers have long been the systems of choice for those in the digital video field, Jobs and company have yet to actually integrate the drives into their systems.
If you can't wait for that day, third-party Apple component manufacturer MCE Technologies announced today the availability of an internal Blu-ray recordable drive for the Mac Pro and Power Mac. Apple users with OS X 10.5.2 and later can install the Blu-ray SuperDrive drive in the bay of their tower, without the aid of any additional drivers.
The SuperDrive is available for $499 alone, $599 bundled with Roxio Toast 9 and the Toast BD//HD Plugin, and $749 as an external drive.

Why is this a good deal? Can't you buy a Sony or LG Blu-Ray internal drive from Fry's, for example, for $350 and use Toast with it? And charging $100 for Toast, a $90 retail product...what do they think we are, suckers? Ridiculous.

If you are a Mac user, you will blindly believe this price is a bargain I guess... If you are a pc user, you will shop around for a deal at half the price with more options...
