It's official, even if it's not a surprise: General Motors product chief Bob Lutz confirmed that the new Vauxhall/Opel Insignia, given its debut in London, will form the template for the next Saturn Aura. AutoWeek confirmed that while the cars will share sub-systems, suspensions and powertrains, the Aura will have a completely different skin and interior.
"We've researched the Insignia around the world, including the U.S., as an internationally spectacular new design, but the Saturn version will be its own car," Lutz said in the article. Interestingly, he dismissed a question about whether or not we could expect to see a coupe version of these shores. "Why introduce a two-door version of the four-door with the same sheetmetal?" he said.
