Hey, they're for real after all. (OK, I wasn't doubting it exactly, but you never know.) Engadget reports that Tesla, an upstart electric-car company you may have heard of, has announced the delivery of the first nine production Roadsters to customers in California.
The report said that the company is now delivering them at the rate of four per week; the current plan is to ramp up production to 100 per month by December of this year. Just last week came news that the company has hired a top-level engineer away from Chrysler to head development of Tesla's next project, a four-door electric sedan. Finally, there's also a new Tesla dealership in Menlo Park, California—perfect for that quick $100,000 impulse purchase on the way back from lunch.
