If you drive Honda's new FCX Clarity or any other fuel-cell vehicle, you are either Jamie Lee Curtis or an otherwise famed person of means. But regardless of how well you have done for yourself, fueling your H-ride requires planning as the infrastructure for hydrogen distribution remains rather scant. Here to help is the Alternative Fuels & Advanced Vehicles Data Center, offering an online locator for hydrogen fueling stations within our borders and beyond.
Sanctioned by the DOE's Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy project, the center provides a Google-powered mapping application that enables drivers to easily find nearby mobile or stationary hydrogen fill-up stations. According to HydrogenCarsNow, all you have to do is "simply click on the hydrogen box, input an address or zip code and mile radius and you're set to see the hydrogen fueling stations in that area."
Of course if 'that area' is not California, your search will return no results. The good news is that you can also use the center to look up other alternative fuel spots, including Biodiesel, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Ethanol (E85), Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Propane), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and even charging stations for EVs in case the all-electric Tesla Roaster is your ride of choice.
