Looking for a slick way to showcase that sexy hi-def flat panel TV you just paid good money for? You might want to consider the new FlyWire solution from Belkin. Announced today, this gadget is basically a fancy wireless A/V switch. With it, according to Belkin, you'll be able to mount your thin and lovely set anywhere you have access to a power outlet.
Essentially you plug all you're A/V equipement into the FlyWire's transmitter unit, we're talking Cable/Satellite set-boxes, Blu-ray players, and game consoles here. The transmitter then streams uncompressed audio and video wirelessly over to a receiver module which is connected to your TV. Belkin also claims that since the HD data stream is uncompressed (resolutions up to a full 1080p are supported), there should be no latency which makes the FlyWire a robust enough solution even for the rigorous demands of console gaming.
The FlyWire is available in two models. There's a whole-room system ($999.99) which uses the wireless RF transmitter/receiver to let you command A/V equipment that sits in another nearby room. The in-room set up ($699.99) on the other hand will still transmit audio and video wirelessly to TVs but relies on an IR blaster alone for controlling devices and switching between inputs. This means that the these components, or at least the IR blaster must remain within line-of-sight. Expect both products to ship in late October 2008. For more info check out Belkin's site.
