Batman has to be the superhero with the coolest gadgets. With The Dark Knight opening today, I couldn't help but wonder, are any of Bruce Wayne's gadgets available in real life? I discovered that some of these finds are currently on the market for you to purchase, others are a strong possibility in the future, while a few are just eye candy.

Check out some of the coolest, after the jump

Batsuit: In The Dark Knight, the batsuit looks more invincible, than in the previous films. This suit appears to not be available on the market (the one worn by Christian Bale in The Dark Knight in now on exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York). However, a similar lightweight suit like Bale's may be used by soldiers in the U.S. military in the future. Nanocomp Technologies is currently working on carbon-nanotube composites for military applications. Weighing about a tenth less than copper these nanotubes could prove to make the ultimate battle suit.

"Nanocomp's materials are already undergoing military testing, and body-armor applications could start emerging in 2010 or so," wrote Alan Boyle on a recent blog post on MSNBC.com's Cosmic Log.

The Dark Knight Attack Bat: Left alone, the bat perches silently. You can wake him up by pressing a button and the creature will screech as his eyes glow. Press another button and the bat will release himself and fly in mid-air. Priced at $27.99 at Entertainment Earth, this bat could be the ultimate Halloween greeter to keep those annoying trick-or-treaters away from your doorstep. However, the device would have been even better if it had a sensor instead of a button to signal its flight.

batphone.gif

Batphone: If you are more into the old school Batman, check out this phone from the 1960's TV series. The phone doesn't have a dial and is answer-only, but you can make calls if connected to a phone system with memory dialing or to a ring-down circuit. The Batphone is available for $129.99 from RedHotPhones, a site that only sells red phones.

bat-cape.gif

Bat Cape: The Bat Cape used in the Christopher Nolan movies is actually made out of special material that is soft when you touch it, but rigid as soon as an electrical current is applied, according to IGN.com. This keeps the cape stiff and forms that bat-like gliding shape.

Bat Cave: If you have billions of dollars like Bruce Wayne, then you will be able to afford the Bat Cave theater from Elite Home Theater Systems. The fancy cave features 12 black leather seats, a theater screen with the Batman symbol and a decorative interior that looks like a real cave. Elite HTS has not listed the price on its site, but there's no doubt it would cost millions, considering the average seat costs well over a grand.

Pretty Cool !! I've always liked Batman since I was a kid. He is more "real' than the
other super heros. His work was possible for a human to do. Keep it up.
