Almost one month after TomTom completed its acquisition of TeleAtlas, the European Commission has granted "unconditional approval" on Nokia's NAVTEQ merger, Engadget reports. The deal is reportedly worth $8.1 billion.
"What makes the whole thing a bit more interesting is that Google signed a long term agreement with TeleAtlas on Monday which gives it access to TeleAtlas maps for use in any of Google's mobile, desktop, and on-line offerings," the report said. "A move likely to put Android in even greater competition with Nokia, which opted out of the Open Handset Alliance."
