Toshiba announced today the lightweight (4.8-pound) TDP-SP1U projector. It features a lamp-life of up to 4,000 hours in a setting called economy mode (3,000 in standard) and an RS232 port for integration with AV network control systems.

The company sys the projector is suitable for digital home entertainment, video gaming, classroom installation and mobile business presentations. The TDP-SP1U has 2000:1 contrast ratio (full on/full off) and SVGA 800-by-600 resolution. The projector is filter-free, which reduces dust particle collection.

"The affordable TDP-SP1U projector also features a rich, vibrant DLP® BrilliantColor display technology, which utilizes up to six separate colors: red, blue, green, cyan, yellow and magenta, for a wider variety of accurate, vibrant colors that won't fade over time. BrilliantColor display technology can enable up to a 50 percent increase in brightness," the release stated.

Other features include password protection, HDTV compatibility, 2.0 watt speakers, and quiet operation.

The TDP-SP1U is priced at $719 (list). A two-year warranty is included.
