Sanyo today announced its latest high-def digital camcorder. The Xacti HD1010 is an ultra-compact featuring 1920 x 1080 (1080i) resolution, Sanyo's "Face Chaser" facial recognition technology, slow motion video mode, and a slew of other features.

The Face Chaser technology can be used with both still photos and video, recognizing up to 12 faces at once, while adjusting brightness and focus. The camera's built-in Slow Motion video mode, meanwhile, records images at 300 frames-per-second, producing smoother slow motion playback at 60 fps. The camcorder's still photography feature can take up to seven shots a second.

The Xacti HD1010 also features image stabilization, 10x optical zoom, and a 2.7 inch LCD that can flip 285 degrees. It's equipped with HDMI output and can connect to a PC, TV, or DVD player. The camcorder is designed for one-handed operation, weighing 9.9 ounces with the battery and SD card.

The Xacti HD1010 is set for a July release with a suggested price of $799.99.
