Rock Band has sold 3 million units in North America and Europe. Now the popular game, which features every genre of rock, including alternative, classic, heavy metal, and punk, will make its next stop in Japan. Harmonix Music Systems and Viacom MTV Networks announced today its partnership with Q Networks, a Tokyo-based music game designer, to create the next wave of Rock Band mayhem.

This new version of the game will be the first U.S.-originated rock music game to ever be heavily localized for the Japanese market. It will include Japanese musical acts among other local aspects.

I think the game has a chance of selling very well in Japan. Already, 12 million songs have been sold as downloadable content since the game's release, from over 140 available songs in the Rock Band Music Store. Japan may well buy in similar numbers, as the game will feature their own popular music in a new and exciting way.
