It took some time to grow on me, but after a few months I was smitten with Pure Digital's Flip video camera. And I'm hardly alone. According to the New York Times, the Flip has managed to take a substantial bite out of the camcorder market, capturing a 13 percent market share. The success of the Flip has spawned a slew of imitators, including, perhaps most notably, the Creative Vado.
RCA's getting in the game too, with three new Small Wonder cameras, ranging from $89 to $149--for comparison's sake, it should be noted that the 2GB Vado is currently priced at $99, with its Flip equivalent running $149.
At the low end is the $89.99 Small Wonder MyLife. The MyLife features a 1.5-inch flip-out LCD, so you can go all blog-confessional and record yourself; a 1GB microSD card (offering up to an hour in Web sharing mode, expandable to 8GB/8 hours) is included, and so are optional skins.
The $99.99 Small Wonder Pocket (pictured at left) offers all of the above, plus improved low-light performance and a "near-DVD-quality mode."
At $149.99, the Small Wonder Traveler has a 2.4-inch LCD screen, an 2GB SD card, a carrying case, and includes AA batteries.
All three Small Wonder camcorders will be available this summer through Amazon.
