As rumored late last month, Pure Digital today launched the followup to its wildly popular Flip Video camcorder. The new Flip Mino is lighter than its predecessor, weighing in at 3 ounces, an has a slimmer form factor.
The Mino features 2GB of onboard memory, a 1.5-inch anti-glare LCD, touch-sensitive controls, and 2X digital zoom. Unlike the first Flip, which was fueled by AA batteries, the new model features a built-in lithium-ion battery, which is recharged when the camera is plugged into a PC via the retractable USB arm that gives the camera its name.
With the Mino's built-in software (Mac and PC compatible), users can post videos to social networking sites, edit them, capture still photos, and order custom DVDs. And Pure Digital has announced a partnership with MySpaceTV, letting users upload videos directly to the YouTube competitor.
The camera is available now from retailers including Amazon.com, Bestbuy.com, Circuit City, Sears, and Walmart.com, for a suggested price of $179.99. The Mino is available in black or white and the company is offering a number of optional accessories, including an AC power adapter, tripod, action mount, and pouch.
