For those of us in the consumer magazine business, now is when the holiday rush begin. While we've already seen a handful of product line shows over the past couple of weeks, Pepcom's Digital Experience event traditionally marks a sort of unofficial start to the summer gauntlet of holiday shows.

I've attended the event the past several years, and I have to say that this year's show--despite the impressive spread of domesticated wild life on hand as part of the "safari" theme--was something of a disappointment. Perhaps it's the old economic downturn, but the aisles seemed considerably shorter, and the cool products on display were fewer and further between. Add the fact that most of products carted out by vendors had been announced back in January at CES--early summer traditionally marks something of a product lull between the beginning of the year and those just-in-time-for-the-holidays announcements.

That said, there was definitely some cool stuff on display. After the jump, check out closeups of the long-awaited Blackberry Bold, Mio's new Knight Rider GPS system, a pair of kid-friendly night vision goggles and more.

Blackberry finally showed off its long-awaited Bold for AT&T. The smartphone gets its name from the bright half-VGA (480-by-320-pixel resolution) display.

You know what your kids really need this holiday season? A device that helps them see in the dark. Due out later this summer, Jakks Pacific's Eyeclops Night Vision is more than just a toy--it gives kids true night vision for less than $80.

File this in the "why the heck didn't they think of this sooner?" department. Navigation company Mio has introduced a Knight Rider-branded GPS, complete with flashing red lights and recordings by William Daniels, the original KITT. I suggested a Flux Capacitor for the next version, and the Mio rep assured me that they were working on it.

The Alienware Area-51 M17X laptop features a 17-inch screen, a Core 2 Extreme processor, NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX graphics, and up to a terabyte of storage.
